Dr. Sanja Fidler
Dr. Sanja Fidler, the woman who is the VP of AI Research at NVIDIA - the 2 trillion dollar AI chip manufacturer.
I'll say that again: NVIDIA, the company that has overtaken Amazon, Alphabet and the entire stock market value of China, and is leading the AI hardware revolution and powering AI in almost every company with over 80% AI chip market share in the world, has a woman as the Vice-President of AI Research. Now that's pretty inspiring for all us women in tech!
Her lab's research interests lie at the intersection of computer vision, machine learning, and computer graphics.
In addition to her role at NVIDIA, Fidler an associate professor at the University of Toronto and a co-founder of the Vector Institute, a non-profit focused on AI research with support from the Government of Ontario.
She completed her PhD in 2010 from the University of Ljubljana in Slovenia and did her postdoc at the University of Toronto in 2012.
She has 170 publications, focusing on topics like computer vision, detecting objects in 2D/3D, image labeling, and building models to understand 3D scenes.
Fidler is also a former chair at the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research (CIFAR), a global research hub uniting over 400 researchers from 21 countries and 140+ institutions to solve tech's challenging questions.
She was recently featured/awarded:
→ in Business Insider’s The AI 100, 2023
→ the Canadian Chair of AI (CCAI) by CIFAR, 2023
→ the Innovation Award (University of Toronto), 2021
→ the Connaught Innovation Award, 2020
→ Connaught New Researcher Award, 2018
→ the Amazon Academic Research Award, 2017
→ the NVIDIA Pioneers of AI Award, 2016
This picture is of man-of-the-hour NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang with Sanja Fidler. My bet is that the next big AI company will be founded with a woman as CEO. What do you think?
