Daniela Amodei
Daniela Amodei is co-founder and President of Anthropic. Before Anthropic, Daniela and her brother and co-founder, Dario Amodei, were part of the OpenAI team for 2 and 4 years, respectively.
At OpenAI, she held key roles, including:
- VP of safety and policy, overseeing technical safety and policy implementations
- VP of research, guiding the creation of GPT-2 and GPT-3 language models.
Her contributions earned her recognition in Fast Company’s AI 20 and TIME’s 2023 list of Most Influential People in AI.
With a vision of developing transparent and unbiased AI systems, the Amodei siblings transitioned from OpenAI to launch Anthropic in 2021.
Their approach has led to the creation of an AI assistant named Claude, trained on the concept of constitutional AI - which means instructing AI systems using a predefined set of rules, akin to a "constitution," to ensure they operate within set boundaries aligned with human objectives.
As Daniela put it, “No model available today is 100% safe, but our goal for Claude is helping to improve on each of those three criteria (helpful, honest, and harmless).”
So far, Anthropic has secured $2.8 billion in funding, with support from tech leaders such as Google, SAP, Salesforce, and Zoom.
Bottom line: I admire Daniela and her work, particularly for her focus on transparency and regulation in AI systems, as these values are crucial in developing responsible AI systems that prioritize human privacy and uphold ethical standards.
